Conduct in Training and Practice for Scientists and Engineers: Twin International Meeting
Monday July 9th 2012 at 09:00
European COST Network – Delivering Social Responsibility: Ethics in Sustainable Training and Continual Professional Development for Scientists and Engineers
Annual Bradford Biosecurity Education Meeting 2 – Biosecurity for Life Scientists: Progress and Challenges after the Seventh Review Conference of the BWC.
The themes of the twin meeting will be:
- What sort of education or training has been done so far, using ethics and/or a “responsible conduct of research” approach?
- How can we develop and adapt existing educational materials to meet local needs?
- What are the challenges to promoting capacity–building and a sustainable approach in this sort of educational activity?
- How might we manage potential tensions between professional bodies and policy makers?
Members of the proposed European COST network have initiated peace, ethics and sustainability teaching for science and engineering students at their universities. They cooperate within networks such as the International Network of Engineers and Scientists for Global Responsibility and within the Pugwash Movement.
Biosecurity associates, including the hosts, Bradford Disarmament Research Centre, have been working for over a decade on ways in which to support the aims of international arms prohibition regimes, seeking the most effective ways to educate scientists and policy makers about the security risks inherent in modern life science research.
We invite colleagues and experts with practical experience and ideas to come to Bradford for this three day workshop to share experiences and to exchange insight and inspiration for future work. If you would like to participate and/or present a contribution, please contact us here for further details:
