The first year is a generic year allowing the student to engage with professionals in modules on research skills, management and evidence-based practice. The practical project is also planned during this time. This year is assessed by course work only . In the second year the student has to choose two modules from a wide range of options (15 credits per module). In addition to this they will also have their specialist subject (30 credits). It is also possible to enrol on two specialist modules only. The third year consists of a work-based laboratory research project (60 credits).

Entry: Candidates must be employed by the NHS For the full programmes either the equivalent of an honours degree in Biomedical Science or a minimum of five years experience in hospital laboratories. Students can also enrol on Individual modules for the purpose of updating their skills or for the purposes of continuing professional development.
Funding: At present via the NHS Work Place Deanery although candidates outside the Deanery area are welcome but would be responsible for their own academic fees.
